I didn’t go to Thailand to diet.
I wasn’t tracking calories. I wasn’t restricting food.
But something changed — quietly.
Walking through street food markets, local stalls, and everyday food spots, I started to notice patterns. Not rules. Not restriction. Just patterns.
Those patterns completely changed how I eat today.
What I Noticed First: Smaller Portions, More Balance
The food in Thailand is full of flavour, colour, and variety — but portions are noticeably smaller.
Plates weren’t overloaded. Rice was present, but it didn’t take over the meal. Vegetables and protein shared the plate.
You could enjoy everything, but you didn’t eat too much of any one thing.
That was the first time a calorie deficit made sense to me without numbers, apps, or pressure.
Vegetables Were Always Part of the Meal
Whether it was grilled meat, fish, street food, or takeaway meals, vegetables were always there.
Carrots, string beans, greens, pumpkin, cabbage — something fresh or fibrous was always included.
Meals felt balanced and satisfying, not heavy or bloating.
Fruit Became a Daily Habit — Not a “Diet Food”
Fruit wasn’t treated as a snack or a treat in Thailand. It was just food.
Apples, grapes, melon, and mangoes were available everywhere — fresh, affordable, and easy to grab.
I started eating fruit daily without overthinking it, and that habit stayed with me when I came home.
Digestion Is the Foundation of Feeling Well
One thing people don’t talk about enough — especially women and mums — is digestion.
Going to the toilet regularly is a huge part of overall health.
When digestion isn’t moving properly, the body holds onto waste. Bloating increases, energy feels low, and even when you’re eating well, progress can feel slow and uncomfortable.
Supporting digestion became a key part of feeling lighter and more comfortable in my body.
Fruit, Fibre, and Daily Digestion
I eat fruit every single day — especially apples and grapes. They’re also my daughter’s favourite, which makes fruit an easy and natural part of our routine.
Apples are high in fibre and support healthy digestion. Grapes and melon are hydrating, gentle on the stomach, and easy to digest.
When fibre intake is consistent and digestion is regular:
- Bloating reduces
- Energy improves
- Cravings feel easier to manage
Overall, the body feels lighter and more balanced.
Why This Made a Calorie Deficit Feel Natural
When digestion is supported and fibre intake is higher, the body regulates itself better.
You feel fuller for longer. Meals feel more satisfying. Snacking reduces naturally.
This is why a calorie deficit finally worked for me — not because I ate less food, but because my body was functioning better.
How I Brought This Way of Eating Home
When I came back from Thailand, I didn’t try to recreate the food exactly. I recreated the principles.
- Smaller portions
- More vegetables with every meal
- Simple protein
- Fruit daily
Rice — Yes, But Smaller Portions
I still eat rice.
The difference is portion size.
Now it’s a small scoop, paired with beans, carrots, or vegetables — not half the plate.
Rice wasn’t the problem. Portion awareness was.
Simple Fish-Based Meals I Eat Regularly
- Sardines with carrots
- Mackerel with pumpkin
- Mackerel with potato
- Salmon or fish tea with pumpkin
- Caribbean soup mix with chocho and carrot
These meals are affordable, filling, easy to digest, and family-friendly.
Chicken, Vegetables, and Light Coconut Milk
One of my go-to meals now includes:
- String beans
- Carrots
- Chicken
- Light coconut milk
- Chicken or all-purpose seasoning
- A little paprika
You can add scotch bonnet for spice, but I usually don’t as I’m feeding my baby too.
It’s comforting, flavourful, and light — proof that eating well doesn’t mean eating bland.
Simple Morning Meals
Some mornings I keep it very basic:
- Peas
- Carrots
- Sardines or mackerel
These meals keep my energy steady and stop overeating later in the day.
Why This Worked for Me as a Mum
This approach works because:
- I don’t cook separate meals
- I’m not dieting or restricting
- I eat cultural food I enjoy
- My digestion is supported
I didn’t lose weight by eating less food.
I lost weight by eating smarter portions and supporting my body properly.
This Isn’t a Diet — It’s Awareness
I didn’t remove foods.
I didn’t punish my body.
I didn’t chase perfection.
I learned how much food my body actually needs when it’s nourished and balanced.
A Gentle Reminder
You can eat rice.
You can eat fruit.
You can eat flavourful food.
You don’t need extremes for change to happen.
Sometimes all it takes is:
- Smaller portions
- More vegetables
- Daily fruit
- Consistency
Small changes, repeated daily, create real results.
I’ll be sharing exact recipes and portions soon — but this is the foundation that changed my eating habits for good.
But something in me had shifted. This time, instead of restarting or feeling “guilty” after a break, I eased myself back into my routine with grace. And it worked.
💛 Getting My Flow Back Through Walking
My reset started with something simple: walking.
I walked to baby stay-and-play sessions with my daughter, walked to the shops, walked to clear my mind. Those gentle steps helped my body wake up again and helped me return to movement without pressure.
It reminded me that fitness doesn’t always start in the gym — it starts with small steps, repeated daily.
🌙 My Night Routine Saved Me
The biggest secret to getting back on track wasn’t a workout… it was sleep.
Every night my phone alarms at 10pm with one reminder: “It’s time to sleep.” Even on holiday, I stuck to this bedtime. And honestly, that’s one of the reasons I came home feeling grounded instead of overwhelmed.
Good sleep made EVERYTHING easier:
- waking up for my workouts
- managing mum duties with energy
- digesting better
- feeling calmer and more regulated
Sleep is the quiet foundation of discipline.
💧 Hydration & Eating Habits That Helped Me Reset
I also focused heavily on hydration — drinking plenty of water throughout the day and coconut water for electrolytes, especially after the flights and heat.
Thailand taught me a lot about portion sizes too. I naturally ate smaller portions, had two main meals a day, and snacked on fruit. It helped me stay in a calorie deficit without even thinking about it.
That gentle approach followed me home and helped my body settle back into a balanced routine quickly.

✨ Seeing Real Physical Changes
By the time I hit Day 24 and Day 25 of my challenge, I noticed something I wasn’t expecting…
My abs were coming through.
Not because I trained harder — but because I stayed consistent before, during, and after my holiday. My body didn’t “fall off.” Instead, it responded faster because I built a foundation before I travelled.
Consistency compounds — even during breaks.
🌱 People Are Asking Me for Fitness Tips Now
What surprised me the most is how many people have started approaching me — online and in person — asking for fitness tips, routines, and how I stay consistent as a mum.
It made me realise something deeply:
When you honour your routine, people notice. When you keep showing up, even quietly, everything begins to align.
🔥 What Helped Me Reset After Travel
- Walking regularly — to baby classes, errands, anywhere I could.
- Sticking to my 10pm bedtime — even on holiday.
- Hydrating properly — water + coconut water for electrolytes.
- Mindful eating — smaller portions and fruit-based snacking.
- Movement without pressure — 10–15 minutes of intention.
- Strength basics — push-ups, planks, knee tucks.
These habits made coming home feel natural instead of overwhelming.
🔥 Planning My Next 30-Day Challenge
Now that I’m on Day 26 of my Sculpt & Tone Challenge, I feel ready for something bigger. Stronger. More structured. More intentional.
My next challenge will focus on:
- Glute growth 🍑
- Full-body sculpting
- Push-up progression
- Knee tucks for core definition
- Plank shoulder taps for upper-body tone
Everything is coming together now — the discipline, the mindset, the results, the confidence.
This version of me stays consistent. This version of me keeps going. This version of me doesn’t quit.
💛 Final Thoughts
Getting back into routine after a holiday doesn’t require punishment, guilt, or starting over. It requires grace, intention, and one small movement at a time.
If you’re returning from travel or a busy season, be gentle with yourself. Your body remembers. Your routine can return. And your strength is still inside you.
Thank you for reading — and if you’re on your own journey, I hope this helps you restart with kindness.
