Recently, I came across a YouTube video that stopped me in my tracks — it claimed that some honey sold in supermarkets isn’t real honey at all, but rather syrup-flavoured substitutes imported from overseas.
Here’s the video if you want to see for yourself: Watch here.
This really made me pause.
I often buy my groceries from places like Aldi and budget-friendly supermarkets. I’ve always assumed that “pure honey” means pure. But now I’m learning that’s not always the case — and that’s worrying, especially for families dealing with allergies or health concerns.
π· Why Label-Checking Matters — Especially for Allergies
As someone raising a child with multiple allergies, label checking has become part of my daily life.
A while ago, I shared a post called Navigating Allergies: Why I Check Every Label, where I talked about how confusing food packaging can be and how important it is to stay alert.
Even something as simple as honey might contain additives, fillers, or blended syrups that can trigger allergies. That’s why it’s crucial to use allergy trackers — to note down reactions, foods, and possible triggers.
Here are a few helpful allergy tracking tools:

- πΊπΈ Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) – U.S.

π· The Bigger Picture: Brexit, Inflation & Food Quality
Beyond allergies, the cost of living and food quality are becoming national concerns.
We’ve left the EU, but many households are still feeling the effects — rising costs, shrinking choices, and uncertainty about what’s really in our food.
π According to The Economist, post-Brexit trade restrictions led to a 20–42% drop in UK exports to the EU and higher import costs.
Meanwhile, Reuters reports UK inflation rose to 3.8% in August 2025, with food and drink prices up 4.9% in just one year.
That means many of us are paying more for less — and sometimes, not even getting real products.
It’s frustrating to think we’re being told to eat “five a day” for better health, yet even fresh fruit and honey are often imported, genetically modified, or overpriced.
How can we truly be a healthy nation if nutrition is becoming a luxury?
πΏ Health Is Wealth — Even on a Budget
As the cost of good food rises, taking care of our health is more important than ever.
That’s why I’ve been exploring natural supplements and vitamins made with real ingredients — free from unnecessary additives.
Here are a few I personally recommend from my Amazon storefront:
