The Importance of Protein: Why Your Body Needs It Every Day 🥚💪

Protein is one of the most important nutrients your body needs — yet it’s often misunderstood or overlooked.

Whether your goal is fat loss, muscle tone, energy, or recovery, protein plays a key role in how your body functions daily.

Claudia in front of tredmill and homeworkout equipment

What Is Protein?

Protein is made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of your body.

It helps repair tissues, build muscle, support hormones, and keep you feeling full and energised.

Read more from Harvard Nutrition on protein

Why Protein Is So Important

Your body uses protein in multiple ways every single day:

  • Muscle repair and growth
  • Energy production
  • Hormone balance
  • Immune system support
  • Hair, skin, and nail health

Without enough protein, your body struggles to recover and maintain strength.

Protein and Fat Loss ⚡

Protein is especially powerful for body composition.

It helps you feel fuller for longer, which can reduce snacking and overeating.

Research shows higher protein diets can support fat loss while preserving lean muscle mass.

Study: Protein intake and weight management (NCBI)

Protein and Energy Levels

If you feel tired often, low protein intake could be part of the reason.

Protein helps stabilise blood sugar levels, which supports more consistent energy throughout the day.

This is especially important for busy mums, where energy demand is constant.

How Much Protein Do You Need?

General guidance suggests:

  • Active adults: around 1.2–2.0g per kg of body weight
  • Higher needs if training regularly or recovering postpartum

Everyone is different, but consistency matters more than perfection.

Easy Protein Sources 🥗

  • Chicken, turkey, fish
  • Eggs
  • Greek yoghurt
  • Beans and lentils
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Protein supplements (if needed)

Prepared, Not Perfect: How Staying Organised as a Mum Reduces Stress & Fatigue 👜

Being a mum means thinking ahead… all the time.

Not just for yourself — but for your child, your environment, and every situation you might walk into.

Over time, I’ve learned something important:

Being prepared isn’t extra… it’s necessary.

The Reality of Mum Life

As a mum, especially with a child who has allergies, I can’t just “step out the house quickly”.

I have to think about everything:

  • What if they touch something?
  • What if they eat something unsafe?
  • What if the weather changes?
  • What if something unexpected happens?

So yes… my bag stays ready.

And yes — someone once laughed when they saw sausages in my bag 😂

But for me, that’s not “doing too much”… that’s being prepared.

My Mum Essentials (Real Life Edition)

Here’s what I carry to stay ready for anything:

  • Hand sanitiser (especially after touching public surfaces) – Shop here
  • Coat, jumper or spare layers (weather changes quickly)
  • Spare socks & underwear
  • Baby wipes & flannel
  • Vaseline for dry skin or irritation
  • Snacks (hot & cold options — yes, even sausages 😂)
  • Water & juice – I always carry my Stanley cup
  • Medication (paracetamol, allergy essentials)
  • Travel card & bank cards
  • Baby brush
  • My own essentials — lip balm, lotion, vapour rub

It might look like a lot… but it saves me from stress later.

Tools That Help Me Stay Organised

The Science: Why Being Organised Reduces Stress

Mothers already carry a heavy mental load — planning, organising, remembering, and managing daily life.

Studies show that:

  • Mums often experience higher stress levels due to daily responsibilities
  • Preparation reduces anxiety by lowering uncertainty
  • Having systems in place improves emotional wellbeing

The Mental Load Is Real

Being organised isn’t just about physical items.

It’s about reducing the mental pressure of “what if”.

Because when you’re not prepared, your mind is constantly working overtime.

Why Fatigue Hits So Hard as a Mum 😴

Fatigue isn’t just about being “tired”. It’s physical, mental, and emotional.

As a mum, your energy is being used constantly — even when you’re not physically doing anything.

  • Interrupted sleep
  • Constant decision-making
  • The mental load of planning ahead
  • Emotional responsibility

According to the NHS , fatigue can be linked to lifestyle factors, stress, and lack of rest.

The Link Between Organisation & Energy ⚡

When you’re not organised, your brain has to work harder.

This leads to decision fatigue.

Over 30 & Energy Levels

As we get older, energy doesn’t always come as easily.

Being organised helps you:

  • Save time
  • Reduce overwhelm
  • Preserve energy

Simple Ways to Reduce Stress & Fatigue

  • Prepare your bag the night before
  • Keep essentials stocked
  • Simplify your routine

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to be perfect.

But being prepared? That’s powerful.

You’re not just packing a bag… you’re protecting your peace.

Renewal Starts Within: How Intentional Living Can Transform Your Energy & Your Future 🌿

There comes a moment where you realise something needs to change.

Not necessarily everything — but how you feel, how you move, and how you show up in your everyday life.

That moment is where renewal begins.

🌊 A Moment of Peace

Sometimes renewal doesn’t come from doing more… it comes from slowing down.

I captured this moment by the coast in Thailand — the sound of the sea, the birds, the stillness.

Take a few seconds for yourself. Breathe. Reset.

What Does Renewal Really Mean?

Renewal isn’t about becoming a completely new person overnight.

It’s about realigning with the version of yourself you want to become.

It’s choosing, daily, to:

  • Protect your energy
  • Make intentional decisions
  • Create habits that support your future

The Power of Intentional Living

So much of our day runs on autopilot.

But when you begin to act with intention, everything shifts.

Instead of reacting, you start choosing.

Instead of surviving, you start building.

Research shows that intentional habits and goal-setting can improve wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

Renewing Your Energy (Science-Backed)

Your energy isn’t just physical — it’s mental and emotional too.

To truly renew yourself, you need to support all three.

  • Sleep: Quality sleep supports recovery, mood, and focus
  • Movement: Regular exercise boosts energy and reduces stress
  • Mindset: Reflection and journaling improve clarity and emotional balance

Why sleep is essential for energy (Sleep Foundation)

Exercise and mental wellbeing research

Making Everyday Decisions Intentional

Your future isn’t built in one big moment.

It’s built in small daily decisions.

Ask yourself:

  • Does this support the life I want?
  • Does this protect my energy?
  • Will this move me forward?

These small questions can create powerful change over time.

Simple Ways to Start Your Renewal Journey

  • Wake up with purpose (even 10 minutes earlier)
  • Move your body daily
  • Write down your goals and intentions
  • Reduce distractions and protect your time
  • Choose habits that align with how you want to feel

It doesn’t need to be perfect — just consistent.

Tools to Support Your Energy & Growth

Final Thoughts

Renewal isn’t something that happens to you.

It’s something you choose.

Every day. In small ways.

Your energy matters. Your future matters.

And the life you want is built through the choices you make today.

My 4AM Routine as a Mum: How Early Workouts Changed Everything 🌅

Waking up at 4am used to feel unrealistic to me.

But for the past two months, I’ve been doing it consistently — and honestly, it’s been a game changer.

Not just for my fitness… but for my mindset, my energy, and how I show up every day.

Why 4AM Works for Me

As a mum to a 17-month-old, my day can become unpredictable very quickly.

I’ve tried working out at different times before — but between feeds, playtime, and just being present, it didn’t always work.

Now?

I go to bed earlier, wake up at 4am, and get my workout done before the day begins.

My baby usually wakes around 6–7am, and by then, I’ve already poured into myself.

That one shift changed everything.

It Didn’t Always Feel Like This

I used to try fitting workouts around my day…

Now I build my day around my workout.

That structure is what helped me stay consistent.

And consistency is what brings results.

The Science Behind Early Morning Routines

There’s actually a reason why early routines feel so powerful.

  • Morning exercise can improve focus and energy levels throughout the day
  • It helps regulate your circadian rhythm (your body clock)
  • It reduces the chances of skipping workouts due to daily distractions

Learn about circadian rhythm (Sleep Foundation)

Research on morning exercise and energy levels

My Simple 4AM Routine

  • Wake up (no snoozing)
  • Hydrate
  • Short warm-up
  • Workout (20–40 minutes)
  • Stretch / reset

Nothing complicated — just consistent.

Tools That Help Me Stay Consistent

What I’ve Noticed After 2 Months

  • More energy throughout the day
  • Better mood and focus
  • Improved consistency with workouts
  • Feeling more in control of my routine

It’s not about being perfect — it’s about showing up.

Real Talk for Mums

I know waking up early isn’t always easy.

And not every routine will look the same.

But finding your time — whether that’s 4am, 5am, or later — can make all the difference.

Because once the day starts, your time isn’t always your own.

Chest Tapping: The Simple Nervous System Hack for Better Immunity 🌿

A woman in a tan hoodie standing on a sunny outdoor path, demonstrating a chest tapping wellness technique with one hand on her sternum and holding a water bottle.

Chest Tapping for Immunity: The Science of Vagus Nerve Stimulation & EFT

Have you ever noticed how your chest tightens when you're stressed? That’s your nervous system reacting to a perceived threat. But what if you could "tap" your way back to calm?

Chest tapping is a gentle wellness practice where you lightly tap areas such as the sternum (breastbone), collarbone, or upper chest. While it looks simple, this practice connects to something powerful: your Autonomic Nervous System.

The Science: How Tapping Rewires Your Stress Response

Chest tapping stimulates areas connected to the Vagus Nerve, the "superhighway" of your parasympathetic nervous system (the "rest and digest" system). When you stimulate this nerve, you send a physical signal to your brain that you are safe.

According to clinical research, activating this system helps the body:

Research published via PubMed indicates that gentle tactile stimulation can actually modulate the amygdala (the brain's fear center), effectively "switching off" the alarm bells of chronic stress.

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

Commonly known as "Tapping," EFT combines elements of cognitive therapy with acupressure. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on deep breathing, you can physically desensitize your stress triggers.

Evidence-Based Wellness: A review published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirms that EFT tapping significantly reduces anxiety and helps regulate the nervous system.
🔗 Read the NIH Study on EFT & Stress

Can Tapping Actually Boost Your Immune System?

While tapping isn't a medical "cure," it is a powerful supportive tool. Chronic stress is one of the leading causes of a weakened immune system. When your body is stuck in "fight or flight," it suppresses immune cells to save energy.

Scientific reviews have shown that tapping interventions can lead to:

  • Increased IgA: Immunoglobulin A is an essential antibody that plays a critical role in immune function.
  • Improved Heart Rate Variability (HRV): A key marker of a resilient nervous system.

How to Try Chest Tapping at Home

  1. Find a quiet space and sit comfortably.
  2. Place your fingertips on your upper chest (just below the collarbone).
  3. Tap gently in a rhythmic pattern for 30–60 seconds.
  4. Focus on a slow, 4-count inhale and a 6-count exhale.
  5. Repeat as needed whenever you feel a spike in anxiety.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes, the smallest practices create the biggest shifts. By taking 60 seconds to tap your chest, you aren't just fidgeting—you are communicating with your nervous system and telling your body, "It’s okay to heal."

Consistency Over Motivation: Why Time Blocking Your Workouts Changes Everything ⏰

Let’s be real — staying consistent with workouts isn’t always easy.

Life gets busy. Energy drops. Motivation comes and goes.

And when you’re a mum? It can feel almost impossible to find time for yourself.

Between childcare, responsibilities, and daily life, your needs can quickly fall to the bottom of the list.

But one thing I’ve learned on my journey is this:

Consistency doesn’t come from motivation. It comes from structure, planning, and habits.

Why Having a Plan Matters

If you don’t plan your workouts, life will plan something else for you.

This is something backed not just by experience, but by behavioural science. Research around habit formation shows that routines and scheduled behaviours are far more likely to stick than actions based on motivation alone.

Learn more about habit building and consistency

When you write your workouts down or block them into your day, you are turning them into a non-negotiable commitment — just like an appointment.

It removes the daily decision-making and replaces it with action.

My Reality as a Mum

For me, mornings are everything.

I wake up at 5am — not because it’s easy, but because it works.

It gives me uninterrupted time to focus on myself before the day begins.

My baby usually wakes around 7am for feeding. She’s breastfed and loves to cuddle, which means once she’s up, my time is no longer just mine.

And that’s okay.

But it also means that if I don’t prioritise my workout early, it simply won’t happen.

This is why finding what works for your lifestyle is more important than following what everyone else is doing.

Time Blocking = Self Respect 💭

Time blocking your workout isn’t just about fitness.

It’s about showing up for yourself.

It’s about choosing your health, your energy, and your well-being — even when life is demanding.

When you block time for your workout, you are saying:

  • I deserve to feel good
  • My health matters
  • I am worth the time

And that mindset shift is powerful.

Your health is your wealth.

The Science Behind Consistency

Consistency works because it builds neural pathways in the brain.

The more you repeat a behaviour, the more automatic it becomes.

According to research published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes an average of 66 days to form a habit.

Read the habit formation study here

This means your goal isn’t perfection — it’s repetition.

Showing up, even in small ways, is what creates long-term results.

The Science of Timing: Why Consistency Beats the Clock

There is No “Perfect” Time to Work Out. ⏰

There is only the time that works for your life.

For some, that’s early mornings at 5 AM before the house wakes up. For others, it might be late evenings or squeezing in a session during nap times. The fitness industry loves to debate the "optimal" hour, but the truth is much simpler: The key is to find a rhythm that you can stick to consistently.

Because consistency is what builds results — not occasional bursts of motivation.

1. The Chronotype Factor: Your Body, Your Clock

While some claim afternoon workouts are better for muscle peak, research suggests that your "Chronotype" (your natural internal clock) is the real boss. If you are a morning person, forcing a night workout feels harder and yields less power.

Research Check: A study in Current Biology highlights that athletic performance is highly dependent on an individual's natural circadian rhythm. Training "in sync" with your life leads to better output.
🔗 Source: The Influence of Chronotype on Performance

2. Beating Decision Fatigue

The reason most people fail isn't a lack of desire; it's Decision Fatigue. By the time 6 PM rolls around, your brain has made thousands of choices, and "working out" feels like an impossible one. This is why Time Blocking is a superpower for mums.

By scheduling your workout as a non-negotiable appointment, you move the action from your "willpower" center to your "habit" center.

  • Structure > Motivation: Habits are formed when a behavior is linked to a consistent cue (like a specific time).
  • Source: APA: How Habits are Formed

3. Temporal Specificity: Your Body Adapts to You

The coolest part about science? Your body is an adaptive machine. If you consistently train at 7 AM, your body will actually begin to regulate your core temperature and hormones to peak at that exact time every day. This is called Temporal Specificity.

Regularity is the primary driver of metabolic health, regardless of what the clock says.

Research Check: Studies show that while evening training might show slightly higher raw power, the body fully adapts to whatever time it is regularly trained at.
🔗 Source: Physiological Adaptations to Time-of-Day Training

Final Thoughts

Don’t let the search for the "perfect" window stop you from opening any window at all. Whether you have 20 minutes at dawn or 20 minutes at dusk, the metabolic magic happens in the repetition.

Consistency creates results. Not motivation.

Simple Ways to Stay Consistent

  • Write your workouts down weekly
  • Schedule them into your phone calendar
  • Keep sessions short and realistic (10–30 minutes)
  • Remove pressure to be perfect
  • Focus on showing up, not doing everything

Consistency beats intensity every time.

Creating a space dedicated to your fitness is such a great idea it you don’t need a lot off equipment I used the few I have had through my journey.

Why Designating a Space Creates Consistency 🏠⏰

Consistency doesn't come from motivation; it comes from eliminating friction. By dedicating this specific corner for movement, I am training my brain to associate it with performance. When you see your treadmill (like my foldable one), your dumbbells (like the Hex set), and your mat all laid out, your visual environment is shouting, "It's time." This small act of pre-planning reduces decision fatigue. There is no guesswork. The "friction" of getting ready is removed, leaving you with one less excuse between you and your 10-minute non-negotiable appointment. When your space is ready, you are ready. Every time you step into this corner, you are confirming a commitment to yourself. Consistency is about design, not willpower.

The Foundations: Setting Up My Consistency Corner

These are the essentials that help me stay consistent. Note: As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission from qualifying purchases.

1. The Compact Cardio Solution (My Foldable Treadmill)

This is the game-changer for my 'Time Blocking' routine. Having an ultra-flat, foldable under-desk treadmill that hides away completely ensures that cardio is always on the menu, even on the busiest 'mum days.'

 2. Strength and Resistance (Hex Dumbbells & Bands)

To complement my Speed work (EPOC), I use incremental weight. I suggest a varied set of soft-grip hex dumbbells (to protect my floor!) and heavy-duty resistance bands to add tension.

3. Floor Comfort and Protection Yoga Mat

A thick, non-slip yoga mat is non-negotiable for floor work and post-run stretching. I also use a dedicated microfiber sports towel to keep my space clean.

 4. Space Definition: Room Separator

In my space, I use a room divider (like the rattan one pictured!) to mentally "close off" the room from distraction when it’s 5 AM.

Tools That Help Me Stay Consistent

Having simple tools at home makes it easier to stay on track — especially as a busy mum.

These small additions make it easier to stay consistent without needing a gym.

Building a Routine That Works for You

There is no “perfect” time to work out.

There is only the time that works for your life.

For some, that’s early mornings.

For others, it might be evenings or nap times.

The key is to find a rhythm that you can stick to consistently.

Because consistency is what builds results — not occasional bursts of motivation.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need more time.

You need a plan.

You need structure.

You need to decide that you are a priority too.

Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day.

Even if it’s not perfect.

Show up anyway.
