Phuket, Thailand – Christmas Experience
There are moments in travel that feel bigger than photos.
For me, visiting an ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket was one of them.
It wasn’t just an excursion. It was a bucket-list experience for me and my son — and a Christmas treat for all of us.
But here’s what most travel vlogs don’t tell you:

- ✔️ How to avoid overpaying
- ✔️ What “ethical sanctuary” actually means
- ✔️ What apps are cheapest
- ✔️ What happens if you book the wrong ticket (yes… I did 😅)

How I Booked the Elephant Sanctuary (Step-by-Step)
I booked through:
Klook
https://www.klook.com/en-US/
The experience I chose was:
“Feed Me Program” (No Transfer Included)
That means:
- No hotel pickup
- You arrange your own transport
- Lower overall cost
And that’s exactly why I chose it.
🚕 Why I Didn’t Choose Hotel Transfer
Many platforms offer transport included — but it increases the price.
Instead, I used:
- Grab App
- Uber (checked for comparison)
- Bolt (sometimes cheaper at peak)
At peak times, Grab was significantly cheaper than Uber.
Booking transport separately saved money — and gave flexibility.
Tip: Compare ride prices 15–20 minutes before leaving. Surge pricing changes quickly.
💸 Cost Breakdown & What You Get
When booking through Klook:
- ✔️ Lower price than walk-in
- ✔️ Free drink included per ticket
- ✔️ Discount on professional photos
- ✔️ Online customer support
- ✔️ Direct WhatsApp contact with sanctuary host
If you turn up and pay at the door:
- Approximately 200 baht more per person
- Still possible, but more expensive
During Christmas period, availability changes quickly.
You must book at least a few hours before or ideally the day before.
I accidentally booked the wrong number of tickets (Christmas rush brain 🙃).
Solution?
I contacted Klook customer service + messaged the sanctuary via WhatsApp directly.
They were responsive and helpful.
Ethical Sanctuary: What That Actually Means
- Does NOT allow riding elephants
- Does NOT allow climbing
- Focuses on rescue and rehabilitation
- Allows feeding under supervision
- Keeps elephants calm and free-moving
You can tell when animals are well cared for.
These elephants were calm. Relaxed. Responsive but not distressed.
If elephants were abused or stressed, their behaviour would reflect it.
Ethical tourism matters.

Christmas is heavily celebrated in Phuket.
- Some activity times change
- Some tours cancel
- Sessions book out quickly
During peak season:
- ✔️ Double-check basket before checkout
- ✔️ Screenshot confirmation
- ✔️ Contact provider immediately if incorrect
