Feeding Freely: Embracing Public Breastfeeding Without Shame"

"Feeding Freely: Embracing Public Breastfeeding Without Shame"

Introduction

Yesterday, on the train home, my baby started to cry. She’s breastfed, and as any nursing mum knows—when your baby needs you, your body knows. My breasts were aching, and my baby was upset. But I hesitated. Not because I didn’t want to feed her, but because of the stares.

Eventually, I reminded myself: I have the right to feed my child. And so I did. Openly. Publicly. Proudly.

This blog is for every mother who’s ever felt uncomfortable breastfeeding in public. Let’s talk about your right to feed, how to make breastfeeding on the go easier, and how we can normalize this completely natural act—together.

1. Your Legal Right to Breastfeed in Public

Breastfeeding in public is protected by law in many countries. No mother should ever feel ashamed or afraid to feed her child.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ United Kingdom

In the UK, under the Equality Act 2010, it is illegal for anyone to ask you to stop breastfeeding in public.

πŸ”— NHS Support on Breastfeeding in Public

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ United States

In all 50 states, women are legally allowed to breastfeed in any public or private location.
πŸ”— National Conference of State Legislatures – Breastfeeding Laws

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ South Africa

There’s no specific law protecting breastfeeding in public, but the Constitution protects the right to dignity and healthcare, which supports the right to breastfeed.

2. Must-Haves for Breastfeeding On the Go

Here are a few practical items that have helped me feel more confident and comfortable while out and about:

  • Breast Pads – To prevent leaks and keep you dry
  • Nursing Cover or Scarf – If it helps you feel more comfortable (not necessary, but an option)
  • Portable Breast Pump – If you're away from your baby but still need to relieve pressure
  • Reusable Water Bottle – Stay hydrated! Breastfeeding is thirsty work
  • Nursing Bra – Easy access makes a huge difference

4. Download Your Free Breastfeeding Journal

To support you on your journey, I’ve created a free printable breastfeeding journal where  you can track feedings, jot down emotions, note any challenges, and celebrate your wins.

Closing Thoughts

Breastfeeding in public is not something to “hide”—it’s something to honor. You’re nourishing a life. And that deserves admiration, not judgment.

πŸ’»πŸ’…πŸ½The power of setting intentional goals!

My Journey: One Step at a Time

As a single mother, life often feels like a juggling act. Between work, childcare, and everything in between, finding time for personal goals can seem impossible. But I've discovered the power of intentional habits and setting smaller, achievable goals to reach bigger dreams.

For the past 39 days, I've made a conscious effort to exercise. It hasn't been easy. There have been days when exhaustion threatened to win, but I laced up my shoes and got moving anyway. Even a short walk with my daughter has proven invaluable.

These aren't just walks; they're intentional moments of connection and self-care. She loves exploring nature, and I get my daily dose of exercise and fresh air. It's a win-win!

Intentional Goals, Real Results

I've applied this approach to other areas of my life as well. Here are a few examples:

  • Getting fit : Instead of aiming for drastic weight loss, I focus on daily exercise and making healthier food choices.
  • Saving for a Holiday: I've set up a small automatic transfer to a savings account each week. It's not a lot, but it's consistent.
  • Making Passive Income: I'm exploring Amazon affiliates to create a small stream of income that requires minimal effort after setup. This is an ongoing process, but so far it's going well.

The Magic of Small Intentions

The beauty of focusing on small intentions is that they foster positive thinking and encourage action. When we set unrealistic goals, we often become overwhelmed and give up. But small, intentional habits create a sense of momentum and accomplishment.

Each small victory fuels our motivation and makes us more likely to continue moving forward. So, embrace the power of intentional habits and start taking small steps towards your bigger dreams. You might be surprised at how far you can go!

Key Takeaways

  • Intentional habits are powerful tools for achieving goals.
  • Smaller goals are more manageable and lead to sustained motivation.
  • Even small actions can have a significant impact over time.
  • Positive thinking and action are fostered by focusing on intentions.

Trimming my babies hair to recover from hair loss

The main cause of hair loss in babies

As a mum we all know what cradle cap is a big factor in babies hair loss but also I’ve noticed with my baby girl that sleeping on blankets and riding on the buggy her hair is constantly in friction.

So I decided to trim the ends , this was slightly difficult as my baby girl has little to no coils in her hair. Which brings me to believe that this also effected the amount of hair loss her hair is lustrous but not too thick.

Why trim the end?

The reason why I decided to trim her ends is because my hair was breaking so much before I was pregnant this was due to over styling to be honest and lack of moisture but once I started increasing my moisture routine and trimming my ends and wearing a bonnet.  with  my hair retained length. Obviously it’s not recommended to put bonnets on young babies because of risk of suffocation  so I will not be doing this plus my baby girl loves to investigate so it’s a strong no.

Products I currently use.

Currently the Products I have used is Child’s Play leave in conditioner child’s farm with coconut detangling spray which is gentle on her sensitive eczema prone skin.

Coconut oilis nutritious but does not hold the moisture for long which means I have to constantly re-apply which becomes pointless and will run up your spending as the organic coconut oil is pricey.

Click Here for all the tools to keep your babies hair healthy and moisturised

So what I have concluded I will stick with the child’s play and continue to trim my babies ends I will also use a silk mattress cover to reduce friction and I will review my products  in a few months time when she is old enough to try other products. My daughters hair is long enough to cornrow and braid so I do use accessories Or maybe I will produce my own ! Watch this space.

I’m so glad that my babies hair is flourishing I plan to lean and encourage her natural hair to be healthy I love to style her hair with these Hair accessories from Amazon there are so many clips so you will never run out I don’t use elastic bands as her hair is too fine and that will pull on her ends which causes breakage but I use the clips and the bands that are made from soft cotton. Thanks for reading and see you in the next blog.

Skin care after pregnancy

As we all know life after pregnancy takes some getting used to, I felt my body went through so much physical changes. My skin fluctuated between oily or just completely dry, spots broke out and I found squeezing them my faces scared so much more easily. 4 months postpartum I looked in the mirror and I could not believe how my face had scaring and white heads, my under eyes where dark because of my lack of sleep, sometimes it was just because I was up whilst my baby slept because this would now be my “free time”.

What are my current go to products ?

I decided to start a face routine I’ve always research the trending products and routines one stuck out for me and that was a good face scrub exfoliating properties also  Retnol cream,  a overnight Collagen face mask  and always always a sunscreen.

Beauty of Joseon Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun

This is the overnight Collagen Face mask it’s so satisfying to peel off my skin feels so smooth when I peel it off. Not going to lie if your face is on the hairier side I would just wash it off on those areas.

I know this is just literally a basic skin routine but I’m learning it’s a process and I will build on it so far this has helped my skin improve. I don’t have dark marks under my eyes. My face is more brighter. My eyes are less sunken the black marks are nearly gone completely And I feel more fresh face and I like what I’m seeing in the mirror.

Cleanser

Ong look at my face before !!

What I have learnt so far?

I’ve learnt so far that our skin is  sensitive, it needs balance consistency in a lot of water. When I I have a spot epidemic I don’t pick it I Use a warm flannel and put it on my face for it to help drain the excess oil and helps the content of the spot drain away. Then I continue with my routine using a disinfectant face wash and cleanser.

I have created a basic skin product. List on my Amazon store front  Amazon basic skin Product list to  help you start your journey

What’s my plan to get my skin looking it’s best?

I will definitely keep updating you along ny journey with new products I’ve tried and also the progress of my skin.
