Moisturising My 13-Month-Old’s Scalp: Our Gentle Baby Hair Routine (For Growth, Softness & Healthy Roots)

By Claudia Lifestyle

Caring for my daughter’s hair has become one of the most calming, bonding parts of our day. Now that she’s 13 months, her curls are growing thicker, her scalp is more active, and moisture is everything — especially for Afro-textured hair.

This routine is simple, gentle and perfect for babies with sensitive skin, mild eczema, or textured hair that needs extra hydration. Below is exactly what I use, how I apply it, and the results we’ve seen. Feel free to copy this routine for your little one ๐Ÿ’›✨

Why Baby Scalp Moisturising Matters

  • ๐Ÿงก Strengthens the hair shaft
  • ๐Ÿงก Prevents dryness and flaking
  • ๐Ÿงก Reduces tension from protective styles
  • ๐Ÿงก Encourages healthy growth
  • ๐Ÿงก Creates a calming mother–child bonding moment

๐ŸŒฟ What I Use to Moisturise My Baby’s Scalp

1️⃣ Water (the first step!)

Before anything else, I lightly mist her scalp with warm water. Hair can’t absorb oils unless moisture comes first.

2️⃣ Child’s Farm Tangle-Taming Detangler – Strawberry & Mint

Perfect for sensitive skin and eczema-prone babies. It softens the hair and adds instant moisture.

Benefits:

  • ✔️ Adds moisture
  • ✔️ Helps loosen dry areas
  • ✔️ Gentle for eczema-prone skin
  • ✔️ Smells

3️⃣ Nala’s Kids Hair & Scalp Oil — Tropical Blast

This oil seals in moisture after using water + detangler. It’s light, natural and perfect for babies with textured hair.

Why I love it:

  • ✔️ 99% natural ingredients
  • ✔️ Light + non-greasy
  • ✔️ Amazing nozzle for direct scalp application
  • ✔️ Perfect for maintaining braids

๐Ÿงธ My Step-by-Step Baby Scalp Routine

Step 1 — Light water mist

Just enough to hydrate the scalp without soaking it.

Step 2 — Detangle & soften

Spray Child’s Farm detangler over parted sections.

Step 3 — Apply oil directly to scalp

Use the nozzle to glide oil across each parting line.

Step 4 — Gentle massage

Massage for 1–2 minutes to stimulate blood flow and help the oil absorb. This is also a beautiful bonding moment.

Step 5 — Protect the style

If your baby has braids, this routine keeps the scalp nourished and prevents dryness.

๐Ÿ’› The Emotional Side: A Mother’s Act of Love

Scalp care isn’t just about hair — it’s about comfort, safety, bonding and tradition. Every time I oil her scalp, I feel connected to generations before me.

“When a mother oils her child’s scalp, she blesses their growth, their wisdom, and their journey.”

๐ŸŒ™ How Often Do I Moisturise Her Scalp?

  • Every 2–3 days for braided styles
  • Daily mist if the hair is out
  • More often in winter or dry weather
