๐ŸŒ™ My Sleep Ritual for Deep Rest: Skincare, Herbal Teas & Gentle Stretches

๐ŸŒ™ My Sleep Ritual for Deep Rest: Skincare, Herbal Teas & Gentle Stretches

✨ Introduction

Good sleep isn’t just about closing your eyes — it’s about creating a ritual that signals to your body and mind: “It’s time to rest.” My nightly routine blends skincare, herbal teas, and gentle somatic stretches to release tension and prepare for deep, restorative sleep.

๐Ÿงผ Step 1: Skincare & Shower Reset

  • Dry Brushing → Boosts circulation, exfoliates, and relaxes the nervous system.

  • Shower Products → A quick wash with Dettol Soap leaves me fresh and clean, followed by a hydrating face wash.

  • Warm Shower → Helps release tension and soften tight muscles before stretching.

๐Ÿง˜ Step 2: Somatic Stretches for Relaxation

Movement is medicine for the body. A few minutes of gentle stretches can release stress, ease the nervous system, and prepare you for restful sleep.

  • Shoulder Blade Stretch
(the one from my TikTok video ๐Ÿ’ช) — Place your arms behind your head, elbows wide, and gently squeeze shoulder blades together. This helps relieve back and neck tension from the day.

  • Somatic Breathing Stretch
Hands on your chest and ribcage, slowly breathing to feel your chest rise and fall. This grounds you in the present moment.

  • Side Torso Hold
Place one hand under your armpit and the other on your chest, listening to your breath and heartbeat. A beautiful way to calm racing thoughts before bed.

๐Ÿ‘‰ I’ve shared detailed versions of these stretches in my Pinterest Somatic Healing Pins, so check those out for a guided flow.

๐Ÿต Step 3: My Herbal Tea Tradition

Growing up in Jamaica, tea was the cure for everything. Gas? Drink tea. Belly ache? Drink tea. Trouble sleeping? Definitely drink tea. (I always joke that if you broke your arm, someone would probably still hand you a peppermint tea first ๐Ÿ˜‚).

  • Peppermint Tea (Traditional) → Fresh peppermint leaves, boiled and strained. Soothes digestion, relaxes muscles, and warms the soul.

๐ŸŒธ Step 4: Sleepy Drink Alternatives

Depending on my mood, I choose between:

  1. Lavender Honey Moon Milk ๐ŸŒ™
Almond or oat milk infused with dried lavender, vanilla, and honey — creamy, floral, and calming.

  2. Lavender Apple Herbal Tea (No Milk) ๐ŸŽ
A light alternative: dried lavender steeped with hot water and fresh apple slices. Sweet, fruity, and caffeine-free.

๐ŸŒ™ Closing Thoughts

Whether it’s a traditional peppermint tea like my Jamaican family swears by, or a creamy lavender moon milk, pairing a warm drink with somatic stretches and a soothing shower is the perfect recipe for deep sleep.

Consistency is key — repeat these little rituals nightly, and soon your body will start craving rest on autopilot. Sweet dreams! ๐ŸŒ™✨
